Although Marcato's love of roller skating fits in well with his Dutch team mates, Vacansoleil is more focused on his cycling ability. The Italian, who became a professional in 2005, soon found his place within the team achieving excellent results from the start. He is a good all-rounder, especially in events that last longer than a day, finishing in the top ten of the final rankings in the tours of Poland, Belgium, Picardy and Luxembourg. Marcato is aiming to win a race in 2010.
