Westra can look back on a successful season as a professional. The rider originally from Frisian won three races including the general classification of the Tour of Picardy. As Westra is strong in the time trials he is expected to gain more victories for the team. He is good in road races which has given him lots of stamina, making him perfect for events that last longer than a day. Although his father sadly passed away before the start of the Tour of Spain, he went on to finish his first big stage race in 87th place. Another year will see Westra develop as a rider making him stronger for Vacansoleil in 2010.
