Joost van Leijen is a talented rider but has experienced several setbacks in his career. His talent shone through from an early early age which was spotted in Ewijk. However, success always seemed to come with setbacks. A determined Van Leijen never gave up on becoming a professional. His big break came in 2009 when he showed what he could do at the National Dutch Championships in Landgraaf while representing the Van Vliet-EBH Elshof team. He made lots of attacks giving him a place on the podium. He clinched a contract at Vacansoleil at the end of 2009 as a trainee and is now looking forward to the next phase in his career.
